COURAGE
Hey Faithbox Family,
This month, we’re talking all about courage. When you think of the word courage, you may envision a warrior on a battlefield or a soldier fighting bravely. When God called us to be courageous, it was because He knew the battles that we would face. Every day is a spiritual war that we must “take courage” to face—but we know we won’t face it alone.
Having courage when everything crumbles around you is a war in and of itself. But we have the benefit of knowing that God will make a way for us. He prepares us for what He calls us to. Every step we take along the way is proof of His power within us that gives us strength to carry on when obstacles and trials come our way.
And the best news of all: on the other side of our courage, there is victory!
We can have courage knowing there is victory on the horizon because of the completed work of Jesus on the cross. Through His resurrection, Jesus defeated sin and the grave, thus paving the way for all of His followers.
Throughout the month, we will be looking at instances in the Bible when people had courage, were called to be courageous and were given the strength to stand firm with courage because of God’s power within them. We’ll be exploring the evidence of Jesus' victory all throughout Scripture in an effort to see why He can be trusted and why we can take courage—just as He has called us to!

Behind the Curtain by Shannon Dingey

Having been battling Systemic Mastocytosis and CIDP since birth, Shannon Dingey knows what it’s like to have to take courage and fight hard. In her new book, she shares how there have been people who have seen how difficult its been to navigate her diagnosis, but there’s more about her journey that no one has seen or known about. Most of the battles she has faced have been fought “behind the curtain.”
Now, Shannon takes the leap to open up about her struggles and the debilitating symptoms she has dealt with daily, all while she appears to be a normal functioning person to the rest of the world. She shares about the anxiety, depression, identity issues and PTSD that no one saw on the surface. She once felt powerless and trapped behind the curtain.
But as she reached her breaking point, she experienced healing, the curtain began to lift and she started to see purpose and power in her story. In Behind the Curtain, Shannon takes readers through her journey in a transparent and authentic way with the hope that your curtain may lift as well, and you’ll find strength and courage on the other side.

Soapstone Lion by Global Crafts
Stand firm.
This gorgeous natural stone lion sculpture is made by African artisans and has gone through multiple stages of sanding and waxing to give them a satiny finish.
The soapstone lions are artfully hand-carved from a single piece of Kaisii soapstone, found only in the hills of southwestern Kenya. Mining the soapstone from surface hills is a labor-intensive process, using little to no machinery. Laborers work with shovels, picks, axes and machetes to carve out large soapstone chucks, which are then carved into beautiful art. This order from Global Crafts helps to alleviate global poverty with safe workplaces, fair wages and community investment for factory employees.

Hand-painted Votive Candle by Global Crafts
African inspired design.
These globally-inspired hand-painted candles are smalls works of art. Crafted by artisans in South Africa, each candle is hand-poured and then individually hand-painted. Each design name is derived from a special African word that is brought to life through the color and patterns which reflect the culture and influences of South Africa. The style images pictured illustrate the general design, but note that each candle is one of a kind. Each candle is hand poured and hand painted by South African artisans with years of experience. NOBUNTO is a South African Fair Trade company that creates high quality hand-painted candles, ceramics and handcrafted greeting cards with the utmost attention to detail using mainly African inspired designs. Their mission is, in a region with high unemployment, to alleviate poverty, not only through development of industry but to be socially, ethically, and sustainably responsible.
Based in the small village Napier, about 180 km east of Cape Town, NOBUNTO has provided employment to mostly woman of the disadvantaged community and guarantees an income for over 18 families. The unemployment rate in the area is in the region of 50%. The word NOBUNTO comes from the Sotho language, meaning "For the people".

As a teenager, Madeline started her company, Inspired Inks, with the intention of using her art as a means to uplift others with encouragement while supporting various organizations who are fighting for justice, supporting law enforcement, strengthening families, and, most importantly, sharing the Gospel!

Our Spiritual Inventory Card is intended to help you get the most out of your faith by being able to track how you’re growing and where you’re going. As you start the new month, take time to reflect on each area and identify where you are doing well and where you can commit a little more focus.
Time with God: More than anything, a relationship with God is exactly that: a relationship. This area focuses on the ways you connect with God. It can include things like prayer, scripture reading, meditation, and reflection.
Relationships: You have been placed in the lives of others to make a difference! Take time each month to consider who God has placed in your life, how those relationships are developing, and what your role is to make a positive impact in their lives.
Generosity: Generosity is at the heart of who God is and all that He does. This area is about the opportunities you have to make a positive impact financially. No matter how large or small, giving financially to an organization or person in need makes an impact.
Serving: A life that’s moving forward is a life that is concerned with the needs of others. In this area of focus, consider where or how you can get involved to serve others in your life, your church, and your community.
