“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
– Psalm 34:18
God asks us to have faith the size of a tiny mustard seed. Yet, in times of pain and suffering, it can feel like an impossible task. After a mass shooting in his town of Buffalo, Minnesota, Kevin Lewis found himself asking the same question that many of us also ask in times of turmoil: “If God loves us and wants the very best for us, why does He allow such horrible things to happen?” But each time he prayed, he heard God answering him with another question, Can you trust me this much?
Those words kept replaying in his mind over and over again.
Eventually, Kevin decided to write those six words on strips of paper, and he Scotch-taped a mustard seed to each one. He placed the strips in random places in his house, his business, on his computer, and even in his car.
In his book, Can You Trust Me This Much?, Kevin shares what his strips of paper and mustard seeds taught him. Through the constant reminder, he discovered that the pain we experience can either destroy us or push us to see God’s greater purpose. He shares his story to help readers develop the courage to face the big hurts, and learn just how to reply to God’s question with with certainty and say: “Yes… I can trust you this much!”
Kevin Lewis is a dad, author, speaker, voiceover artist, and host of the popular “The Next Step” podcast. He drinks more coffee than most people you know, and makes his home in Vinton, Virginia.
